Theme Parks
Theme parks are always a favourite with children of all ages. One of the best theme parks in the area is Dinopark – the name tells you everything! It’s brilliant for kids that want to discover the world of dinosaurs and dig for their bones! Whether you’re travelling with youngsters or slightly older kids, you’ll find one of our local theme parks an exciting day out for your family.
Dinopark – Algar
Distance: 70miles (Approx 1 hour 30 drive)
Our little boy just loves Dinopark. He’d have every birthday and outing here if he could. It’s up in the mountains and is basically full of dinosaurs, some which move and make noises. There’s a sandpit where the kids can dig for dinosaur bones and a small plunge pool for the kids to cool off in summer. They also have a 3D cinema and a picnic area.
If you want to cram as much in as possible then you could do Dinopark in the morning and then the Algar Waterfalls for lunch and in the afternoon. Again we haven’t actually been to the waterfalls ourselves, but we have heard they are well worth a visit. We understand there are quite a few steps and the rocks can be slippery so make sure you wear appropriate shows. Don’t forget swimmers and towels and you can take a picnic too. To really appreciate it we understand you probably need to be a better swimmer so may not be appropriate for really little ones to go swimming.
Pola Park – Santa Pola
Distance 30 miles (Approx. 45 minutes)
Pola park is a big funfair for kids. Its loads of fun and the really great thing is most, if not all of the rides are designed for the under 10’s. Open times and days vary throughout the year but in the summer month it opens at 6pm through to around 1am. We have often combined dinner in Santa Pola followed by Pola Park. A lovely evening out.
Terra Mitica – Benidorm
Distance: 55miles (Approx 1 hour 10mins drive)
This is one place we haven’t actually visited but we have heard lots of good things. We haven’t been as we have been told its better value for money if you go when the kids are older (or rather taller!!). Whilst we have heard there are some dedicated areas for little ones it’s probably better to visit with kids 9-10years+.
Zoos
Here are three excellent zoos within 60 miles of Casas Almóros, all of which are popular with our family. Feed the animals at Rio Safari or walk around the continents at Terra Natura. If sea animals are more your thing, be sure to visit Mundo Mar.
Rio Safari – Elche
Distance: 26.4miles (Approx. 40minutes)
A real favourite with our family. Whilst the name says safari it really is a zoo. They have a lovely little train that drives you in amongst some of the animals. There is a petting zoo and you can buy food from the shop to feed the animals. Various shows take place throughout the day…. try and get a place in the shade in the height of the summer. Take your swimmers along as they have a small waterpark and swimming pool which you can access free of charge. There are picnic areas available. It’s a great day out.
Terra Natura – Benidorm
Distance: 55miles (Approx 1 hour 10mins drive)
There are 2 Terra Natura parks, Benidorm and Murcia. Benidorm is much larger and continues to develop attractions there. This is where we usually go. They have recently opened their Multi Adventure Park which is a play area of rope bridges, towers and slides ideal for slightly older kids. It is definitely a good way to spend a day and our kids often pester us to go back. The park is divided into continents and you can walk around each area to see their native animals. Make sure you go and feed the elephants and the tigers are amazing to watch.
Mundo Mar – Benidorm
Distance: 57.4miles (Approx 1 hour 10mins drive)
This is a really lovely park to visit and gives you some great views of Benidorm, if you like skyscrapers. Of all the zoos, we think this is the cleanest and well kept, a real pleasure to visit with loads of covered areas to get out of the sun. They also run shows throughout the day. Make sure you see the Dolphin Show set to the music of Phantom of the Opera…stunning, sends tingles down your spine. They have a great kids play park for kids of all ages. Our kids could easily spend the whole day just in the park
Water Parks
If your kids are little water babies then you’re sure to want to visit a water park while you’re in Spain. You’ve come to the right place, the Costa Blanca area is renowned for its water parks, set up for kids of all ages to enjoy. We have to share with your favourite though, the one we return to time and again. We find there’s nothing better than a day here to cool down and have a good splash about.
Aquopolis – Torrevieja
Distance: 44miles (Approx 1 hour drive)
There are quite a few water parks in the Costa Blanca area but this is the one that we go back to time after time. Whilst there are some big water slides most of the park is geared up towards 10 years and downwards. It feels safe and not too big. It is really well staffed with very vigilant lifeguards. There is a very lovely area for toddlers and little ones which bigger kids are not allowed to use. You can hire sun loungers but there is a very large grassed area where you can picnic as well. A really lovely day out.
Indoor Activities
On a rare rainy day or if you want to get out of the sun for a while, you can visit some of the nearby indoor attractions. You might like to explore the caves and visit a sweet factory or there’s ice skating and bowling. Don’t be concerned that there’s not much to do indoors in Costa Blanca – there’s plenty as long as you know how to find it. Fortunately, we pride ourselves on being able to advise on the right coolspot for you!
Ice Skating
Distance: 21miles (Approx 35mins)
If you want to get out of the sun or if you happen across a rainy day then take a trip to the ice rink in Elche. Check opening times before you go as it does close for siesta. We would definitely recommend the Chinese Buffet restaurant just a few doors away too. Really fresh, great quality, all you can eat food for a really good price.
Nickelodeon Adventure
Distance: 18.6m (Approx 30mins)
This is a great kids play park which is all indoors based on all the Nickelodeon characters. You can go to boating school in Bikini bottom, discover the Ninja Turtles in the 4D cinema, meet the Paw Patrol and play with the Rugrats. Kids under 90cm are free. Their opening times vary throughout the season so please check before you travel.
Cuevas De Canalobre – Jijona
Distance: 43miles (Approx 1hour 10mins drive)
The caves are a really popular tourist attraction and a great place to go if you want to get out of the sun. They were used to store and work on aircraft engines during the Spanish civil war. Whilst they aren’t overly baby & toddler friendly (the floor is slippery in places and the railings could be a little more robust), our little one was happily carried to the bottom of the cave and walked some of the way back up to the entrance. They caves are also small enough so that your kids shouldn’t get bored looking around them. The views of the surrounding countryside are spectacular. Toilets and a small snack bar and gift shop are available. Entry fees are very reasonable.
